Common Issues & Solutions

Error message on clicking "transcribe"?

Ensure you've selected a valid audio/video file. Large files may take a moment to begin processing. For a video on a web page or an M3U8 (HLS) stream, use Web Fetch instead of adding a file.

Transcription hanging or loading endlessly?

Check your available disk space. Scriber Pro needs temporary space for processing. If your disk is nearly full, free up some space by deleting unnecessary files and try again.

Export issues?

Scriber Pro typically works without additional permissions. However, if you're experiencing export issues, try going to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders. Click the + button to add Scriber Pro and grant it folder access. If problems continue, please email support.

Web Fetch (Web Videos & M3U8)

How do I transcribe a video on a web page or an M3U8 link?

Click Web Fetch, paste the link to the page (or a direct .m3u8 link) and click Find Videos. Pick the video from the list and click Transcribe. No browser extension, developer tools or command line needed.

Can it transcribe lectures behind a login, like Canvas or Kaltura?

Yes. If a page needs you to sign in, Scriber opens the site's own sign-in window. Sign in once and Scriber remembers you for next time.

Web Fetch didn't find the video?

Some players only load their video on the video's own page, so open that page and paste its link, or paste a direct video link. Copy-protected (DRM) videos and live streams can't be transcribed. How Web Fetch works

YouTube, Batch & Offline

YouTube says there's no transcript?

YouTube mode uses the video's captions, so it works for videos that have them. Private, removed and age-restricted videos can't be fetched.

How do I transcribe a batch of files?

Drop or select several files and click Transcribe. They run one after another while the yellow badge counts down. To clear the queue, press Esc or hover over the badge and click the ✕.

Does Scriber transcribe in the cloud?

No. Transcription always runs on your Mac. YouTube and Web Fetch are the only features that fetch from the web, and you can turn them off in Settings. For a step-by-step guide, choose Help ▸ Scriber Pro Help (⌘?) in the app.
